ABOUT AKSEPWMA

AKSEPWMA was established by a Parliamentary Act, Cap 47, 2000.

On the 5th of September, 2018,
Governor Udom Emmanuel reconstituted the present-day AKSEPWMA with Obong (Dr.) Prince Ikim as the Board Chairman. At assumption of duties, the agency first created a new road map for the execution of its functions

2. Waste to Wealth Initiative

AKSEPWMA integrated workable schemes to maximize the waste-based revenues in the form of energy, fuels, heat, recyclables, value-added products and chemicals along with more jobs and business opportunities. Measures were mainstreamed to curb public irresponsible attitudes to waste.
This called for the 3Es –  Education, Enlightenment and Enforcement. Afterwards, over a thousand offenders of waste related laws were prosecuted, giving way to public consciousness to waste management. The Governor was keen on recreating a State of waste-to-no-waste, where waste generated in Akwa Ibom will be converted to energy to aid power supply and boost revenue.

3. Vegetation Control

Another landslide achievement of AKSEPWMA under the stewardship of Governor Emmanuel is Vegetation Control. Before 2018, the vegetation control in the state stood at 28%. At the instance of AKSEPWMA, it heightened to 68% in the first two years of operations and in 2021, it stepped up to 78% from a staggering 28% in the years past
That Akwa Ibom State stands with its shoulders high for emerging a five-time cleanest State in Nigeria, is not without the vegetation control function carried out by AKSEPWMA. The  agency developed the vegetation management programmes to define the best maintenance approaches for each location in the State and has hitherto placed premium on that.
