In the year 2000, the Obong Victor Atta-led administration established the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) by a Parliamentary Act, Cap 47, 2000.
On the 5th of September, 2018,
Governor Udom Emmanuel reconstituted the present-day AKSEPWMA with Obong (Dr.) Prince Ikim as the Board Chairman. At assumption of duties, the agency first created a new road map for the execution of its functions
Being classified as dirty state is nothing to be proud of but until recently during the Governor Udom Emmanuel’s era, that was how Akwa Ibom State was perceived by both visitors and indigenes on account of poor waste management and environmental protection strategies and models.
It is therefore not a surprise that visitors and citizens of the state continue to applaud the recent cleanest status the state has sustained in the past four years under the stewardship of Obong Prince Akpan Ikim and the vision of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, beginning with the administration’s Zero-Waste drive which occasioned the reconstitution of the state’s waste management agency.
